Do They Speak English in Istanbul?

English is widely spoken in Istanbul, particularly in areas popular with tourists and ex-pats. Many of the city's hotels, restaurants, and shops have staff who speak English, and it is not uncommon to find English-language signage in these areas. 

In addition, English is widely taught in schools in Istanbul, and many young people in the city are fluent in the language. While it is not necessary to speak Turkish to get around Istanbul, knowing some basic phrases can be helpful when interacting with locals or visiting less touristy areas.
