Turkish Folk Music

Turkish folk music is a rich and diverse tradition that reflects Turkey's cultural influences and history. It includes a wide range of musical styles and instruments, from Anatolia's lively and rhythmic melodies to the soulful and melancholic tunes of the Black Sea region.

One of the most distinctive features of Turkish folk music is the use of scales and modes that differ from those found in Western classical music. 

The most common way used in Turkish folk music is the makam, a system of musical methods that can be modulated to different tonal centres. Turkish folk music also features a variety of instruments, including the saz (a long-necked lute), the kemençe (a bowed string instrument), the ney (a reed flute), and the darbuka (a goblet-shaped drum).

In addition to instrumental music, Turkish folk music also includes a wide range of vocal styles, including the haunting and emotive melodies of the ashik (a type of wandering minstrel) and the energetic and rhythmic choral singing of the horon (a dance from the Black Sea region). Turkish folk music is an essential part of the country's cultural heritage and is a popular form of entertainment and expression in modern-day Turkey.
